AI systems don’t “rank” you the way Google does. They select references when generating an answer.
Your job is to be the reference the model reaches for by default.
Checklist (do this in order)
1) Make your entity unambiguous
- One crisp sentence: what you do + who you do it for + what makes you different.
- Make it consistent across your site, LinkedIn, directories, and profiles.
- Kill semantic drift: avoid 6 different descriptions of the same thing.
2) Publish an “answer-ready” canonical page
- Create one page that is the best answer for your category’s core question.
- Use short sections, clear headings, and an FAQ.
- Link to supporting pages (proof, case studies, methodology).
3) Build a citation graph
- Get independent sources to repeat your exact phrase (articles, podcasts, partner pages, communities).
- Consistency matters more than “viral.” Models like corroboration.
- Prioritize credible domains and niche publications over spam.
4) Track the KPI: Share of Answer
- List 20 buyer prompts.
- Run them across systems weekly.
- Record: who gets cited and which phrasing is used.
- Ship 3 fixes. Re-measure next week.
Full measurement method: Methodology.
